Knowing that I am investigating ways of making money to write about, a friend just suggested that what people were probably looking for the most was ways of getting rich. That sounded very likely so I decided to do some research.
I typed in the keywords "best selling ways to get rich" and used the Google search engine to see what results I would get. I am going to tell you about the top 10 search result entries that I got. Are these the ways to really make a lot of money? Are these the secrets of how to get rich? Let's have a look!
Money
Money Diaries
The topmost Google search result is a website entitled I Will Teach You To Be Rich. It presents an instalment from The Money Diaries and an advert for a book by Ramit Sethi. He is the New York Times bestselling author of the book, also called I Will Teach You To Be Rich.
The information about Ramit Sethi also tells us that he co-founded PBwiki and is a graduate of Stanford University.
It seems that the first thing you have to do to learn how to make money is buy his book. Ramit is clearly very good at selling himself and his writings so that is a great way of getting rich if you can do it. Become the author of a best-selling book.
He offers you a free Insider's Kit that includes a look at the first chapter of his book I Will Teach You To Be Rich.

Profitable Auctions on eBay
eBay methods of making a lot of money are the next recommendation for how to get rich. getrichslowly.org, which is a blog, reveals "13 Steps to Profitable Auctions" on eBay.
I do make some money on eBay so I know that it is possible but I would love to make a lot more!

The next result brings us back to Marc Ostrofsky by way of a site devoted to Testimonials for Get Rich Click!
A selection of other bestselling authors, including Jack Canfield and David Bach, are all putting in a good word for Ostrofsky's book.
From this we can deduce that a good way of getting rich is to write a bestseller and then get a bunch of fellow successful authors to help promote your book.
Get Rich Click!: The Ultimate Guide to Making Money on the Internet
In third place is yet another book title. This one is entitled Get Rich Click!: The Ultimate Guide to Making Money on the Internet. It is by Marc Ostrofsky.
The cover has a computer mouse on it as an illustration so we can tell this is about making money online. This is a book about how to make a success of getting rich from using the Internet.
The author reveals his secrets and recommendations for making money on the Internet. This is a book for those people who want to be Internet entrepreneurs. I would love to be a wealthy one so maybe this is a book I should get!
How To Get Rich
In second place in the Google search results is yet another book. This one is entitled How To Get Rich and it is by Donald J Trump and Meredith McIver.
Trump is described as a "bestselling author," a "TV impresario" and a "real estate titan." He starred in The Apprentice.
In his book, which is available from Amazon, he reveals the secrets of making a lot of money.
So again we have a bestselling author explaining how to make the big money. Clearly selling books is the way to go, and I can tell that without even reading the works of these extremely successful writers. I am sure there's a lot more to it than that though and presumably that is why we should buy the books.

Number four in the search results is not another book but is actually a website devoted to telling us more about Ramit Sethi, whom we have already discovered in first place because of his book I Will Teach You To Be Rich.
Investment Yogi went along to a talk given by Sethi in Silicon Valley, California. A summary of Sethi's talk is presented on Investment Yogi's website.
Get Rich Geek
The fifth search entry in the top 10 for the keywords "best selling ways to get rich" is another website. This time it is a page entitled How To Get Rich on the getrichgeek.com site.
The site explains that passive income streams are the way of making a lot of money. Get Rich Geek goes on to say that writing a bestselling book is a great way of creating passive income.
So what I have learned today so far is that being a successful author is a good way of getting rich.

It is said that this is the book that The Secret was based on. It is about the Law of Attraction. It is said that this provided the key to Bill Gates's wealth. Many things get said about such books but are they all true?

Well, from my research today it appears that writing a bestselling book is the recommended way of making money and getting rich. If this is right I am already on the right track then because I have two books published and am currently working on three more.
Herbs of the Northern Shaman is published by O-Books and Hummadruz and a Life of High Strangeness is on Amazon Kindle.
What I need now is enough people to buy them to make them bestsellers and then I too can be earning passive income and get a bunch of other authors to write testimonials about me and my work!

Well, Marissa, if you have been following what I have been saying over the past few days I have just written this because hubs I write about important subjects do not get the traffic and do not make the money, and I continually find myself struggling to pay my way here! People let me down too! I am determined to do something about this. If the world does not want to know about what I am knowledgeable about and no one will employ me then I don't have any option but to have a go at doing something I am not interested in. Yes, it is sad, very sad that I am in this predicament. It has nothing to do with whether I love myself or not. If I didn't I wouldn't be doing this but would accept that I am on my way downhill and could end up homeless! Surely someone who does not care about themselves accepts that sort of fate? I have written loads of interesting articles with valuable information but do they make money for me? No! Can I live without money? No! Does the phone-bill, electricity and rent get paid with anything but money? No!
Bard, you use words like RICH, not just making ends meat, but the word RICH, implies something else besides paying bills and nessessities. This is why our world is lacking in diversity right now because this idea that people need to dumb themselves down to eat is taking over the world. You could go back to Wales and get a job teaching English somewhere. You write well and you are a published author. You could make a living. Maybe in Tererife it is a dead end for you. It sounds like a place that is not good for you in terms of making a living. It is resort and you said that many businesses are folding. Your uniqueness is what I value in you as a person. Your interest in botany, plants and wildlife is something of interest. Your interest in poetry is very interesting and inspiring. I understand your problems with money. I am dealing with this everyday and I know many people who have money to pay their bills who are still unhappy and miserable because they focus on what they lack. I think that the word RICH or best selling is not the answer to pay bills, that is the answer if people desire fame and popularity. Many people pay their bills but they are not rich and famous. Do you have the love and support from your family in these hard times?

Marissa, I am trying to make a success of my writing here. The terms "get rich" and "bestselling" are ones that people are looking for. Do you really think a hub about "making ends meet" will do very well with numbers of readers or in money coming in? It might make a few people laugh which would be good but that's about it! To go back to Wales will cost me at least 1,000 GBP and I would need to sort out a place to live for me and my cat in advance. Yes, my father supports me but he is not going to fork out that sort of money for me to go back to the UK. Many people may well pay their bills without being rich and famous but they have a source of income. I have less and less coming in and this year has been the greatest struggle for me when it comes to money that I have ever gone through. Yes, billions of others can say the same but I am trying to do something about it!

You appreciate people who will feed into your shallow value system. The word RICH is an obnoxious, shallow and empty word used by empty-headed, shallow people.

That is not my problem. These people are also UNHAPPY and they feel that the word RICH is appropriate. I don't.
If I could afford your book, I would, but I want to get a book on foraging in case of harder times.
I can't support everyone out there that I would like to. It is o.k to be aggressive in terms of promoting yourself if you need money, but Markus Rothkranz is obnoxious and made money but I don't respect him.
There are many obnoxious people who use words like RICH, famous all the time and they appeal to very shallow and stupid people. Why not take a lowly job somewhere as a cashier or wash dishes?
I have taken lowly jobs before. What is wrong lowly jobs?
Are you too high and mighty to work as a dishwasher, cook, cashier, or work in a store selling produce?
If you need money, go get it NOW. Go get a hunting license and kill your Deer. I have taken many lowly jobs and I am not afraid to get my hands dirty.
These jobs do not exist. If they do then understandably they go to Spanish speakers. I know people a lot younger than me who are fluent in Spanish and a second language like German too that cannot find any sort of paid work. I have never hunted and there are only rabbits here that can be hunted. That in itself causes no end of cruelty to the dogs that are starved, abused and abandoned or killed after hunting season is over or their owners no longer want them.
Cashiers in stores do not exist? Waiting tables? Washing dishes? Recycling, picking up trash?
I have worked with horses and cleaned them and shoveled their dung. I have worked in nursing homes as an aide and worked with the dying. There are jobs out there. Some of them are unpleasant but there are jobs in stores and in retail. Sales jobs are well paying. People learn how to sell things in stores. People eat RABBIT stew.
I think that if you were living in a place to hunt, fish and forage that would take a load off your food bills. If you weren't paying for a cat that would help you.
You just went back to Wales on a trip in September.
If you got to Tereife, you could get back to Wales somehow.
I want to learn about hunting, fishing and foraging very badly because I see that hard times are coming to all people. Not just me and you. You have the upper hand if you already know about wild plants. I collected acorns yesterday and they were all rotten. I guess the season for picking them is over. Free food, hunting, fishing..
and getting some simple job somewhere or many jobs could work for you. You could go back to Wales and teach English in schools. You could learn how to recycle. There is money in recycling.

This man is highly motivating. He is a recycler and makes money and a living this way. He started out with nothing. Even if you found a like minded friend where you live, you could start doing this as a team. You could save or help mother earth in the process and do something you love doing; helping NATURE.
I do not avocate that you take a job that will trouble you or cause you depression, but there are jobs for you. Recycling is a great way to make money and I think this man could help you. Let me know what you think of his video?
Really nice point of view. However, the key point to mention is that there isn't one set out route. If you pick whichever route you wish and work hard and long enough at it then you will be successful. Success is usually coupled with wealth...or at least i think so... Great hub!

this is an excellent video for all those UNHAPPY people who equate money with success. This video is about happiness and how this is the key to success. I am super happy and content. I feel great about myself and life.
I am successful because I am much happier than most people. I am not rich and I am not poor, but either way, I am super high on life. Happiness is the true meaning of success. Most people are not as happy and content as I am. John the junkman is a positive man and he has values. He loves God and wants to help mother-earth. He looks happy and he is very positive. He is a very successful person. Anyone who does not think so is a miserable loser.
Marissa, as I have said what small amount of basic jobs go to Spanish speakers. I am not fluent enough. That recycling video is really great and I have shared it. I would love to do work like that but how? You need a place to store what you find and you need a vehicle to transport it. I have neither. I am in an apartment block in a tiny village. I would need a partner in such work and premises but that is something I can look for. There's loads of stuff thrown out here that is perfectly good. I have loads of plates, dishes, cups, glasses etc that were chucked in a skip outside but selling them is another matter. I just didn't want to see them wasted. At least my landlady can have them if and whenever I leave here. My father paid my flight back in September or I couldn't have done that.

I have been on the writing route for many years and have written for newspapers, expensive magazines, websites and have a book published by a proper book company and that all sounds very successful but there has been no regular money in any of it for a long time!

If you were living here in America and near Rhinebeck NY where I live...we could start together. I have a vehicle. It is a sports car with fairly large trunk. Junkman started off recycling with just a car. Rhinebeck NY is only 15 miles from Woodstock NY. You would fit in here in this area. Too bad you live around me. I would love to do this. I have two air-conditioners and they could be recycled NOW...People love nature around where I live. It is a very arty area and very progressive. Too bad you can't move here down my road.

Happy people defend themsevles, get angry and they are confident. happy people are not weak people.
Happy people are not afraid to speak their mind. Happy people can not be brought down by miserable people who have a warped value system.
Can you accept that I am beaming with joy, euphoric and happiness? I didn't sleep that well last night but I am so grateful and so happy and that is what success is all about in the mind of a mentally well and physically healthy person.
Can you accept that people who are not famous or wealthy are super healthy and happy? I am floating on air at the malls, smiling and laughing all the time and cracking jokes. Now yesterday my muscles were really sore and I was not feeling that great, but I am super happy! Is that hard for you to believe? Why is it? I have everything to be happy about? I am a very strong person. I am flying high on living. Every breath is a gift from the heavens. Every morsel of food is a heavenly gift and the skies look beautiful. The sun is shining...love is everywhere...the only thing is DARK people are money obsessed and they think that wealth is what success is and they are on the SAD diet, don't exercise daily, look unhappy, and they are unhappy. You have never met me and I am radiantly healthy and happy, mostly from attitude.

At the end of the day Bard - we are all just trying to forage our way through this life and I offer my support any way you choose to do that. I've been dirt poor and very comfortable - in my experience I am happier having money - it allows me to help other people too! That makes me happy:)
In my experience, working with the dying or people who are on their deathbed made me happy. I didn't need moneyt to help people. It is a person's attitude that makes them happy. People who are unhappy need money to help people. People who are happy have their heart to give to people. I gave a homeless woman a flower on the street once in NYC new York city. If I didn't have the money to pay for a rose, I would have found a way to make this homeless woman happy for a day. I gave her the flower in the street of NYC New York Mahattan. She was a ninety year old African American who was hunched over and looked extremely poor. She was begging for money and no one cared to stop to smile at her. I sat, eating my lunch and I felt so horrible watching how many people didn't even smile at this woman. I had bought a rose for myself that day, and walked out and gave her the flower and some money. Not much, since I don't have much. I also opened my door to another homeless woman for a night once. People make exuses that they need money to help people. They need a good heart and motivation. I don't feel like helping people and I am not perfect, but people do not need money to help people. A smile and a kind word helps people too. I am not happy because I have a nice car or a nice house. It drives and that is what I care about. What makes me happy is a smile, kind word, acceptance, love...these things are priceless. People should respect and love people who are considered unlovable, undesirable etc...

I so appreciate people like you Marissa and while I agree please let me say that I have friends with children that need money for food and when I mail them 100 dollars it feeds their family. I smile at that friend all the time but that won't fill her babies empty bellies and that is my view:)

But his lady that I gave the flower to and a very small amount of money, she looked like this was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for her.
She said God bless you and she looked very close to death. She was a happier person than all the money grubbers who passed her by on the street of Manhattan who didn't even smile at her. O.k One other person in a sea of thousands stopped to give her money. He was a nice person. I was observing this closely and waited quite awhile to observe the heartlessnes and coldness of our world today which makes me VERY ANGRY!!!!!!
I am in tears remembering this story. Manhattan is the center of the world and people worship the money obsessed people who have no soul in that city. many people are angry on Occupy Wall street. Most of the people who passed her by that day had more money that I do. This showed me something about the world that we live in. Something is wrong with the hearts and souls of people!!!

Some people have so little in life but they have faith.
Who knows what her past was. I can't take home every homeless person on the street. Sojourner Truth was a woman who had an atrociously hard life, but she became a minister on the streets.
She was a black slave and her life was atrocious. These stories may give you strength because her life is like nothing you would want to experience, but she was a trooper. These are the unknowns and they are also very interesting people. My father always tells me about how people have no food and no shelter and to thank God for what I have.

YES - I do give to people I don't know if you want to dice it up. Never met the person face to face I sent the money to most recently but I don't really consider her a stranger. I live in St. Louis - I see this stuff everyday too and I'm on your side, but just because I care about money doesn't make me bad I don't think.

If the only thing you can talk about is your down payment or wealth being the thing that you consider success, then you have no real values or any interesting goals. People who are interesting have interests in other things besides finance and income.

This hub as you can see, which from my point of view started as an attempt to raise some money, has fallen into a mess where I am having to monitor what is posted and what is not and quite a bit has not been! I am just a poor guy trying to make some money in a crazy world. This afternoon I have been watching a female thread-waisted wasp I rescued yesterday from a garden spider's web on the balcony, building her nest of mud on the wall. She was flying away and returning with more and pasting it and coming in on specific lines of flight. I was thinking how amazing this was. If I write a hub about it I am sure Marissa will find it interesting but most people will ignore it and if I manage to find any Amazon or eBay ads for anything to do with such insects then no one will buy them or click on them anyway. It's like this people are interested in Nintendo DS devices but not amazing insects. That is a reality of this crazy world we are in! What would I personally prefer, a thread-waisted wasp or a Nintendo? Give me the insect any day!
Like I am saying, people need to be CONTENT today. YOU ARE A WONDERFUL PERSON. Your problems are meaningless to me and it has not changed my perception of you. You are a person of value and worth in the world. You have your problems in a world that is focused on money, materialism and the good people of the world who are truly worth something and successful in the real sense should feel tremendously centered and content with who they are. Real success is happiness. Any person of worth can achieve happiness. You will get over this problem you are having with money. But people who imply that success is way off in the distance somewhere can not be happy TODAY. Today, you are a success in my mind.
I am a success in my own mind. I don't feel bad about myself or what I became in life. Now I have had people tell me that I should have more in life etc...but who are they to tell me who I am? Their measure of success should mean nothing to me. My measure of success is different. You have already contributed something of value in the world. Even if you didn't have internet and if you were dirt poor, you would be able to be successful by contributing something of value in the world. Are butterflies not a success? They are because they are here for a reason. The creator doesn't make mistakes. The creator doesn't think that some people are not successful because they are not loaded.
I assure you that if there is a God, God doesn't measure success by anything that has to do with money.

But we are in a world of human judgements and opinion but that is all it is. Thank you, Marissa! I will be OK and have been through this situation several times this year. It is just frustrating being confronted with it again and again as well as being let down by people. I have actually seen the funny side of all this and am doing a new hub about Blackberries - the fruit, the pies, the smartphone and even a hit by The Move and cue "Goodbye Blackberry Way..." I have a strange sense of humour but laughter is good! It will be making reference to foraging. Mixing in the natural stuff with the modern technological stuff and making a point that I know what I chose. Give me the fruit any day! lol I will also be writing a serious article about spiders and thread-waisted wasps on the balcony here.

Your music is never quite that upbeat. Your lyrics are never that positive. Your poetry is never that dreamy or positive. I have really really positive music that is super upbeat. I dance, I groove, and I am not obsessed with elitism. Have you ever taken a lowly job? I know a very gifted painter who is a delivery person. I know people who work as stock people. Have you ever taken a lowly job? You never mentioned that you have taken any lowly jobs to make money. You are also very obsessed with people who are extremely rich. You love nature, but you never write articles about people who are like junkman John or people who you don't think have the kinds of status that would draw a crowd. I personally feel or find people who are very obsessed with elitism to be insecure and unhappy. Humilitiy is a great trait. You delete some of my messages because you don't like happy people who are secure. I am super high on life. By the way, Norah Jones has no upbeat music. She is very down, very unhappy. Her music is very depressing. I find you depressing. I don't think it has to do with money. Your basic personality is down, depressing and dark. Stay with your kind. There are people who think that speaking about money all the time is vulgar. I know them. They may not be here. You don't really appeal to me. I am into the humble people of the world, not the Rothschilds and not people who never took a job where the person got their hands dirty.
I am super happy! My music reflects this too. I have numbers of really upbeat songs. I am everything Priscilla Hernandez is not; HAPPY, content, peaceful, upbeat, healthy.
Same thing with you and Norah Jones. She is also very UNHAPPY. You can tell that from her very slow moving, depressing music and downer lyrics.
I assure you, that I am not jealous of UNHAPPY people.

I don't want to just be a fake friend Bard. I will tell you the truth. You are obsessed with names, popularity, huge amounts of money or people with it and it is unbecoming. How many Rothschild blogs can you write? How many Beatles or fame articles? How many articles about money? Getting rich is not the answer, but it is the answer for very insecure, very empty people. You sound empty and you feel that this emptiness could be filled by something outside of yourself. Most of your blogs are about the best selling musicians, the best selling items, the most wealthy people in the world, and it all stems from your inner misery. You have to love yourself.
If people don't love themselves, they seek respect from other people. You don't need to be respected if you love yourself. You need food on the table, and a roof over your head, but you don't need to become rich!
The most happy people in the world are GRATEFUL. Why not write an article about being grateful. There are people like Sojourner Truth who rise above poverty, unslavement and they are happy, strong people of the world. Why not write an article about Sojourner Truth or the American Indian? Why bombard people with your warped value system?
