The role of women in druidry today is the same as for druid men

I would say that the role of women in modern druidry is in general the same as the men. Just as archdruids lead ceremonies, make decisions, study and pass on knowledge and in many cases write books, so do the women archdruidesses. The men are priests and represent the God and the women are priestesses and represent the Goddess. This represents balance in the universe, like the Yin and Yang.

Some women in modern druidry such as Emma Restall-Orr, who is also known as Bobcat, become as well known as the archdruid men in the movement. Emma is an acclaimed author just like Phillip Carr-Gomm, who is also an author of many titles and chief of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, or OBOD as it is often called..

Besides having written many books on druidry, Emma has been a very public figure as a druidess. Wikipedia describes her in this way: "Over the course of her life in Druidry she has been on numerous television and radio programmes in Britain and around the world, featured and quoted in the print media and on the internet." Google her name and you will find loads of information about her and her books that will be of interest to Druids and Pagans.

Then there is Denise Price, usually known as Denny or Deni, who was the Archdruidess of the Glastonbury Order of Druids. She has become a well known public figure in British druidry and has often led important ceremonies, and she married celebrated author John Michell, who is most famous for his book View Over Atlantis . Sadly he died some years ago but Deni is still very active as a Druidess in Glastonbury. She is very concerned about environmental issues and problems people are experiencing in the world today. She takes part in many campaigns and protests, as well as signing and circulating petitions on political, social and environmental concerns.

The Loyal Arthurian Warband druid order has plenty of titles that women can take including Warrior-Priestess and Shield Maiden. There are very many women in the order.

Another woman druidess who has done a lot in druidry is Liz Murray, who co-wrote The Celtic Tree Oracle with Colin Murray. She has also worked as Liaison Officer for the Council of British Druid Orders.

Veronica Hammond ran the Cotswolds Order of Druids as Archdruid and is a well known female druid in the British pagan community..

These are just some of the many women who are very active in modern druidry. There are many more but I just wanted to give an introduction to the role of women in the druid movement today and to answer the hub question posted by Eve Redstone. I also wanted to show with examples that there are indeed very many women druids as well as their male counterparts.
