Tenerife South's Yellow Mountain in Amarilla Bay in the Canary Islands
In Costa del Silencio
Amarilla means yellow in Spanish and in Tenerife's Costa del Silencio there is a Yellow Mountain by Amarilla Bay. This impressive Canary Islands volcanic cone towers over the community complex it stands next to and looks out over the sea all the way down to El Médano where there is a Red Mountain.
Montaña Amarilla really is a yellowish colour and is a unique volcanic mountain that has been designated as a natural reserve of interest to geologists and anyone studying the native flora and fauna of Tenerife.

Strange plants
Several strange plants including the silvery-grey-stemmed and succulent Cardoncillo (Ceropegia fusca) grow on its sides and in the semi-desert below.
For most of the year this odd looking species has no leaves or flowers. They are carried by the plant only briefly in the winter months.
Yellow Mountain is also a great place for ramblers and anyone who fancies climbing up to the top and looking out over Costa del Silencio in one direction and along the coast to the Golf del Sur in the other.

Tenerife South Airport
The community housing complexes close to Amarilla Bay have plenty of Tenerife apartments for rental on a long and short term, and the area of Costa del Silencio is popular with many people looking for Tenerife accommodation in the south of the island. Amarilla Bay’s own complex is quiet and well-maintained and looks out over the sea. The Reina Sofia Tenerife South Airport is also within a short drive making it a convenient place to live or take a holiday.
Flicks Bar
Amarilla Bay has the popular Flicks Bar right in front of the sea and many people enjoy relaxing there. On Sunday afternoons there is a live cabaret session and Sunday roast dinners are served as well. There is also entertainment most evenings at this venue. An episode of a comedy drama for the Welsh S4C TV channel was filmed on location at Flicks Bar.
Where is Amarilla Bay?
Scuba diving
Amarilla Bay has a small rocky beach but plenty of locals like to sunbathe here. Just along the coast at the foot of the Yellow Mountain there is one of Tenerife’s beaches where nudity is allowed and this is where the naturists like to gather.
The underwater environment in Amarilla Bay is very popular with scuba divers and a TV documentary was filmed there about life under the sea. Many fish and marine creatures can be seen here and dolphins are often spotted in the bay as well.
For quite a secluded area away from the bustle of the main resorts, Amarilla Bay has a lot of very different attractions on offer.
