Face to face with a Reptilian
69Encounter with a Gecko
Many of you will have heard all about the Reptilians that David Icke claims secretly run the world, and contactee Alex Collier advises that you run as fast as possible if you encounter one of these very dangerous alien beings, but I had an encounter with a reptilian of a very different type. It was nevertheless in the early hours of the morning when I came face to face with a Reptilian!
Around 3 am my cat Tiggy woke me up by leaping off the bed and running into the next room. The last time she had done this was when we had a visit from a large Persian tom cat and I wondered if he had returned.
But it was not a cat, it was something much smaller and at first I couldn't see what Tiggy was trying to get in the kitchen. She was fascinated by the door of a cupboard and trying to get in it.

I opened it and moved some stuff inside and then I saw the little creature she knew was there. It was a Gecko and he ran out of the cupboard and went behind the rubbish bin.
Tiggy was there like a flash and I had to hold her back and with the other hand try and move the bin and catch the little reptile. He ran fast out into the hall and I was quick enough to catch him.
I always find that geckos become almost as if they are tame once you have them in your hand, and so it was with this one. I decided to take some photos before I let him out over the balcony.
Geckos are amazing little lizards with classic vertical pupils in their ever-so-reptilian eyes. They also have the ability to see in the dark and amazingly to walk up walls and upside down across ceilings. They are also able to change their body colour schemes and can match their backgrounds.
In Tenerife there are two types - the Tenerife Gecko (Tarentola delalandii) and the Turkish Gecko (Hemidactylus turcicus ), the latter species of which is a real alien invader here that was believed to have first appeared on the island in the area of the capital city Santa Cruz.
Both species come out at night to seek their insect prey and they are often found on the walls of houses both inside and out.
It is thought that it is lucky to have geckos around and indeed, they are a great help because they love to eat moths, mosquitos, cockroaches and other insects that we don't want sharing our accomodation.
Tiggy has caught geckos before and sadly she killed a couple in the place I used to live down in the south of the island. I have managed to save some there though and also saved a very big one she caught in the middle of the night again here.
On that occasion the gecko wasn't very thankful at first when I grabbed him because he bit me. I suppose he thought I was an even worse monster than Tiggy and was trying to defend himself. Again though the rescued reptile soon quietened down and stayed calm in my hand and I put that one out over the balcony wall too.
Geckos have such cute faces and cute little hands and if I didn't have Tiggy they would be more than welcome to share my apartment!

Sure is a cute little Gecko. A friend of mine has a few lizards. Not sure what kind but, they started off small and are now huge.
I never knew Geckos tamed so quickly. I undestand about the cat though, I am constantly playing rescue from mine. Very nice!
My wife and I had a gecko (I assume) in our apartment one time. I went to catch it, glanced away for a split second, and lost it. I searched everywhere. The little guy just vanished. Cool creatures.
Not Geico, Gecko. ;)
A cute one at that. As for the other Reptillians...every time I see one, I blast them with my Megatronic..err..Blaster.
Pew! Pew! ;) Thanks for this, always a pleasure!
How cute! When I saw your title I thought it would be about aliens, but these little guys are much more adorable. :)
I worked in a pet store that sold them and they are the most darling little pet's. I have never been biten by one,..I find them quite tame unlike the monitor's we had.
Glad Tiggy didn't kill him !!!
I like lizards I live in Spain and we have the house Geckos and also outside we have a bright green lizard that is about a foot long who lives in the spaces in the garden wall.
Awwwwww, I want one! Hey, can I use the picture of the gecko that is the full image of it? Would be awesome to make into a reptilian oriented image! Would be more than happy to give you a copy of whatever image I make with it. I want to turn your little gecko image into art!
Wonderful post!
Calling all Earthlings! This is the king of the planet Gek. We have invaded your puny earth and are currently observing your bizarre living quarters.
Great Hub! I enjoyed reading it immensely. I've had newts and tons of different kinds of lizards as pets when I was a kid...but I dont believe I've ever had a Gecko. Love your pics, very cute!
Cool little creatures they are. I remember seeing some lizards running around like that in Cancun too. Also they have huge ones. Keep up the good work now. Thanks for sharing. CC
Bard you have to come to Australia. Lizards alive - you'll get your fill in no time. Geckos are cute I have to say.
Fab hub Steve, pleased you saved this Gecko from Tiggy. They are great at keeping your home insect free.
I like how they stick to glass and can lick their own eyes. Crested geckos and bearded dragons rule!!
We have so many of the alligator lizards running around and I've noticed the ones in front of the house are dark colored, while the ones at the back are light colored! They don't change color like geckos and chamelians but they are wonderfully different. Right now there are some that are only about an inch long! Love reading your hubs.
Little geckos are so cute!! Different case for human sized ones!!

Lovely Hub about Geckos. I'm not sure why some people are frightened of them. I had an entertaining evening once in Darwin, when a tiny one had made itself at home on my hotel room door. In my efforts to move it on so it wouldn't get trapped in the door, I managed to swing right out with the door over the balcony and nearly fell over the railings. This was much to the amusement of some other hotel guests, who thought I was just a strange lady swinging on the door!
