Interview with Tanisha Herrin

I recently reviewed a new book entitled Fighting the Blues as a Black Woman:How I Survived Suicidal Depression by Tanisha Herrin and, as someone who has suffered from the condition myself, I thought I would help give the author a bit more publicity by interviewing her for hubpages. Here is that interview:

Please introduce yourself to my readers here.

A mother of 2 children (6 yr old son, 2 yr old daughter). I'm a creative writer with background in blogging, poetry writing and research writing for various article topics. After the unexpected passing of my mother Nancy in 2005 I founded the Nancy A. Herrin Foundation (nonprofit charitable community support charitable trust). Most people know me as a quiet person with a lot of creative energy.

What is Inspire Creations all about?

Since I've dealt with depression for a long time, more than 10 years, I wanted to do something that would allow me to be active in a positive way while setting an example for my children. Inspire Creations is a business to showcase my inspirational writings and other independent works.

My creative projects are a form of therapy helping to create a positive outlook while helping others. As a seasoned creative writer I enjoy doing research and writing on multiple topics including health, parenting, and self-publishing. Other projects through Inspire Creations include custom bookmark designs and nature photography.

Please say a bit about your new book.

My latest book is actually my 10th self-published title: "Fighting the Blues as a Black Woman: How I Survived Suicidal Depression." In this book I talk about my personal experiences in dealing with depression. I share a few tips on what others can do to help themselves and I have a bonus chapter featuring several poetry pieces talking about depression.

This book has a great deal of significance because it is being offered free to anyone interested in reading it. People from various ethnic backgrounds can relate to the feelings and thoughts shared in this book.

For each free copy requested paperback or download via eBook or Amazon.com, one dollar will be donated via the Nancy A Herrin Foundation (up to $2,000) to benefit a mental health organization.

What have been some highlights of your career so far as a writer and poet?

I recently had my latest book get a spot on Amazon Kindle Bestsellers Ranking list. "Fighting the Blues" was #45 out of the top 100 titles for the depression/self-help genre. As a self-published writer I have written 10 publications including poetry and children's poetry.

Over the years I have written books and done various writing projects and the effects of depression have kept me from fully promoting my earlier titles so to see some form of success with my 10th is a special milestone as a writer coping with depression.

Bard of Ely,

What a wonderful tribute to writers everywhere. Both you and the writer want to make a positive difference. I greatly admire your efforts.

All too often we are self serving - to see the promotion of another is a great thing.

God bless you and your family.

As a person who also suffers from depression it is wonderful to know just how much we can accomplish as long as we refuse to give in and keep on doing what we can every day. Another great hub!
