Making extra money at hubpages (Part 1 - Keywords)

Earning extra money on line at hubpages is what many people want to do but a lot of us find it hard going and wonder how it is that there are hubbers, who are making a lot here, and are always scoring around 100 and on the front page for hubbers.

A hubber like Misha can make as much as I made in my first two years here in just a month. It is obvious he knows a lot more about what is needed if I want to be making extra money at hubpages.

To make money on line clearly can be done but there are skills needed to do so. It is obvious to me that the top hubbers must know something I don't, and knowledge is power, as it is rightly said.

I have concluded that the best way to start really earning on line is to follow the advice and money making tips from those who know how to do so. I have a lot to learn but am making progress every day here.

Keywords are very important

Speaking of Misha, he is one of the successful writers here at hubpages, who knows how to use keywords well. He knows which of these words to use when writing on a topic.

It is obvious that Misha knows how to make serious money with his hubs and he has published a screen shot showing the amounts he makes. I know I could live on that sort of money.

Misha has admitted that he had to experiment and learn and that he didn't always know what he knows now about keywords and the use of SEO.

Misha has very kindly shared his experience, advice and money making tips from using the Google Keyword Tool. It is obvious to me that I need to do a lot more research if I want to start earning the sort of amounts Misha can make.

Misha says that keywords are not much use unless they are the ones that people search for when searching on your topic. Because you use a certain word a lot does not mean that most people search for that topic using the same terms to find entries about it.

So what he is saying is that we need to know what Internet users are searching for, and, most importantly, what words they use when doing so.

Until fairly recently, although I had heard the term keyword and knew what it meant, I hadn't really understood how important a knowledge of the subject is to make extra money on line.

A good way of finding out about how to use this method is to read and follow the advice of a money making expert like Misha clearly is. I have begun using the Keyword Tool for Google Adwords.

Hubs on the same topic

In my efforts at learning about ways to make money on line, besides understanding that keyword research is very important, I have also seen many hubbers writing a series of hubs on the same subject matter. It has never appealed to me to do this because I have perhaps foolishly prided myself on variety in the subjects I write about but have recently found out that there is a great value in writing articles on the same topic.

Instead of trying to cram everything about a subject into one article, if you write individual ones and link them together this should help your traffic and hubscores. Paul Edmondson has written a piece explaining all the reasons why writing multiple hubs about a topic is a very good idea for success as a writer here. I am going to give it a go!

I know I have a long way to go in learning these things.

Well, Dahoglund, it has taken me a while to understand what is needed and in many ways I am just beginning even though I have been here over two years!

Don't forget that you can always go back to under-performing hubs and add links and keywords. Be aware of keyword stuffing, however, because that is frowned upon. Having been a member of HP for over 2 years, I am going through older hubs and using the link suggestion tool and re-examining the tags/keywords to see what I missed.

This is very usefull! One thing that I have done to boost my stats in my 5 weeks with HP is I have read and replied to almost 500 HP's by my followers (84) and those who I've HubHopped and had good Hubs. I re-edit my Hubs at least 5 times. Sometimes there is newer information, or something that becomes popular in the media, go back and tweak it, update. I have a lot to learn about keywords, backlinks and the like, but think about what you would "google" or search, if you were looking for something quick on the internet...a newbie :0)

Bard Dude! I hit all your buttons but I am the pessimist. I can hardly write for trying to visit other hubbers. My score suufers because I don't/won't go to forums. I have no time. By the time I try to go to selective hubbers (hubbers I enjoy or hubbers that frequent my hubs), there is another message saying, "New hubs- read or your score plummets again!". Well- something to that effect. This is too much work honestly. I go to elayne's advice. I tell her that it looks like the best way to make money is to write hubs about the best ways to make money. I try to do it all like LillyGrillzit say above. I could make real money mopping a floor and it would be easier money. But I hit all your buttons and I wish I could hit the "funny" one again.

God bless!

Great info here. I'm definitely not going to give up my political hubs, and they do generate Adsense revenue, and some organic traffic as well. But I certainly see the value in writing what I like to call "anchor" hubs, which can continue to generate traffic and income while I can concentrate my efforts on my real interests.

I like your idea of doing multiple pages on one topic. :)

Thank you, Micky, Springboard and Wendy!

Micky, I know what you mean, Springboard, like yourself I will be doing other hubs that are about stuff I like to write about, and Wendy, it was Paul Edmondson who deserves credit for the idea!

Writing multiple hubs on a subject is called 'niche' writing, isn't it? I've been here a little over a year and still don't understand what 'stuffing' is, or where to put keywords in a hub.

Often, I publish a hub and find in my stats that 'there are no search terms for this hub.' Drives me nuts! ;) Other hubs have all sorts of keywords, I guess.

I think my essential problem is I've yet to read THE hub that explains this in my 'language.' Any suggestions?

I don't know if it's called "niche writing" but if it is I should have included that info! Actually that is an example of a keyword. Keyword stuffing is using the same keyword too many times in an article. eg using the word niche in every other sentence for several paragraphs. You have to get a balance that looks as if you are not deliberately using the word over and over. I don't know what the rules are on this though, only that Google don't approve of too many of the same keywords in a short space of writing! It's something else to think about: first you have to learn what are good keywords and then you have to remember not to "stuff" them in your hubs!
