Advice about making money at hubpages (Part 2 - links)
58To make money you need traffic
To make money on line at hubpages, which of course is something we all want to do, we need as much traffic as possible to our sites. The more traffic we have then the more likely it is that someone will click on adverts, which is how the money gets made here.
So continuing a series of hubs that offer advice about making money here I am going to be looking at ways of promoting your hubs on the Internet and anywhere else you can. I have already looked at the importance of keywords in Part 1.
It doesn't matter how brilliant an article is or how long you spent researching it and putting it together if nobody gets to read it. Getting your articles actually seen is an important key to success.

Use social networking sites
An excellent way to drive traffic to your website, and to get people to see the articles you have written and published at hubpages, is to leave links on social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace. Fortunately, hubpages makes this very easy to do even if you know very little about html and working with Information Technology (IT).
When you have finished publishing your hub there is an option to Share it, and this will help get you more traffic. If you click on this there are a selection of social networking sites you can submit a link to your work on. Myspace, Facebook, Digg, Reddit, Twitter and Blog This and StumbleUpon are all there, and it takes just minutes to submit links to these Internet websites.
You do have to join these sites but that is a simple process and once it is done it is done. Being a member of many social networking websites pays big dividends when it comes to promoting your articles and getting the much-needed traffic.
It pays to submit a brief description at these sites too, and make it a bit different and it will help get your article seen. You can often choose the thumbnail image to go with your submission as well.
Hubpages also provides you with the easy to use options of Emailing to Friends, Linking to the page and Sharing with Followers. Hubpages realises that not everyone is good at IT so makes it really easy for us. But it is still up to us as users to use the tools we are given to help drive traffic to our hubs.
Many people may wonder what the term "backlink" means. Wikipedia explains what backlinks are and how important they are in this way:
"Backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. Inbound links were originally important (prior to the emergence of search engines) as a primary means of web navigation; today their significance lies in search engine optimization (SEO)."
There are sites like Xomba and Seekyt, which offer bookmarking. This means that to submit your link you have to write a brief description before it will be accepted. This is easy enough to do. Being on these websites also enables you to earn additional money at them via Google Adsense ads, as well as being able to drive traffic to your articles on hubpages.
On Xomba you can choose whether to write a whole new article or just to simply bookmark a link. RedGage is another site like this.
SocialMarker.com offers you a tool that submits your links to a whole lot of social networking and bookmarking websites. I found out about thanks to the howtoguru.
Any way you can think of of getting your hub links on as many websites as possible is worth pursuing. Putting the link to your hubpage or individual specialist hubs can be printed on business cards or any other publicity material you have as well. You need to find ways of letting the world know about what you have written and published here.
The more time you spend on getting links to your hubs seen on other sites the more traffic you can expect. The value of this form of promotion for your work cannot be underestimated.

Specialist forums and message boards
Another tip I can give you is to use specialised forums and message boards to target potentially interested readers. It can be worth registering with websites so you can post on their forums just for this purpose, but be careful you don't spam them once you have done so.
By that I mean, to use a bit of common sense and Internet etiquette on line and post other stuff too on forums so you don't get seen as just someone who uses the boards to post stuff you want to promote.
There are many possibilities for getting a lot of traffic this way. For example, I post many hubs about conspiracy theories and UFOs, so a good place to advertise these hubs would be on forums frequented by people with a particular interest in these topics.
I get a lot of visits from the David Icke forums because his fans are interested in these subjects. I have an Internet traffic number of 58 from that website since yesterday.
Of course it wouldn't be any good posting a link to a recipe or a hub about fashion on a message board for people interested in aliens. Think about website forums that would be interested in the topics you write about and in this way you can target readers for your work by posting your links there.
If you are very lucky with a hub about a specialised subject matter it may get picked up and published as a recommended link in the links section of a website. One of my most successful hubs ever is about slips and this hub has been added to the links section of Slip Heaven by the owner of that site. I have had very high traffic from this one particular hub and have had 32261 views for that article alone.
I have written several hubs about David de Rothschild and his Plastiki Expedition and one of these David decided to tweet on his twitter site. This is the sort of thing that can happen if you are lucky with getting your links and hubs seen by the right people.
Well, I hope these tips have been of some help to you in increasing traffic to your hubs, and in so doing making extra money on line. Good luck!

Very Interesting information. Thanks
Really enjoyed reading this and very informative thanks!
These seem to be good tips, new here, so I'm in the process of researching. Do you think it's best to write several hubs first and then begin social networking, backlinking, etc. or be doing it right from the start?
Great Hub! Thanks for the information and the examples of places we can link our hubs. It's much appreciated (Voted Up)... now lets see if I can actually remember to do this.
